David Justice runs My Mechanic Helper and is the data controller for the personal data described here, meaning we decide how and why it is used.
What we collect and why
- Account details (email, password or Google sign-in): to create your account and sign you in. Basis: contract.
- Garage data (vehicles, service logs, parts, receipts, photos, wishlist, saved diagnoses, oil choices): to provide the Service and sync it across your devices. Basis: contract.
- Text and photos you send to AI features (problem descriptions, vehicle details, dash photos): to produce the answer you asked for. Basis: contract.
- Reminder settings: to send the service reminders you turned on, including emails. Basis: contract and consent.
- Technical data (device and browser type, IP address, error logs): to keep the Service secure, prevent fraud and fix problems. Basis: legitimate interests.
- Messages you send us: to answer support requests. Basis: legitimate interests.
Camera and location access are only used when you allow them on your device. Location is not stored. Your plan status is kept so we know which features you can use. We don't receive your full card details.
Who we share it with
- Service providers who host the app and database, send emails, and run the AI features for us.
- Paddle, our Merchant of Record, for selling Premium, managing subscriptions, payments, tax and invoices.
- Professional advisers such as lawyers and accountants, when needed.
- Authorities, where the law requires it.
We do not sell your personal data.
How long we keep it
We keep your data while your account is open. When it is no longer needed, for example after you ask us to close your account, we delete or anonymise it, unless the law requires us to keep it longer.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, delete or export your data, to object to or restrict how we use it, to withdraw consent at any time, and to complain to your data protection authority. Contact us through the Service to use these rights; we aim to reply within one month.
International transfers
Our providers may process data outside your country. Where needed, we rely on safeguards such as standard contractual clauses.
Security
We use reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect your data, such as encrypted connections, access controls, and limiting each account's data to its owner.
Cookies and local storage
We only use essential browser storage to keep you signed in and save your settings and garage on your device. We don't use advertising cookies.
Changes
We may update this notice and will show the new date above.
